A bit of Real Rainy Season in the Gulf of Thailand!

For the last few days we’ve had some authentic rainy season conditions on Koh Phangan – proper waves crashing on the beach, a serious wind blowing through the dive centre, a thoroughly bad-tempered cat, plus some torrential rain for good measure. The diving school stays open as ever, but it’s more for the PADI pro’s to socialise, complain about the weather and enjoy an excellent noodle soup from Mr Chai across the road – thankfully he is still open! Today is actually a lot calmer although still wet, and the forecasts suggest that the worst should be over –...

Quiet times on Koh Phangan

The Gulf of Thailand is calm, the weather is generally sunny (with the occasional serious shower), the SCUBA diving and snorkelling conditions are good and we even have whale sharks making appearances at Sail Rock. It’s such a shame that this time of the year is meant to be our rainy season!! Over the last few years we’ve been seeing this change in the weather – and now we’re trying to let divers know that there can be a chance of great diving on quieter dive sites at this time of year. Longer trips are off the agenda at present, so we’re not making any plans to...

The Big Boat is Back and further Chaloklum Diving news from Koh Phangan

Well, it was meant to be a quick visit to a new boatyard in Suratthani, but Lek and Nick ended up spending 2 weeks there as a great team of craftsmen did a lot of necessary and thoroughly professional work. For sure, after all that it’s great to be back on Koh Phangan and a fine feeling to have the Chaloklum Diving boat looking so good. All we need is a little more SCUBA diving action – things are still quiet in the Gulf of Thailand, although the upcoming full moon party should make the island busier soon. Sail Rock remains our principal dive site with Angthong Marine Park and...

It’s time to take it easy on Koh Phangan!

It’s time to take it easy on Koh Phangan!

In the period of about 1 week Koh Phangan has changed from rather hectic, high-season mode to a laid-back tropical island once more! Instead of a busy diving boat and dive sites we’ve more space both onboard and underwater – and although it’s nice to work hard for a while, the Chaloklum Diving team are not complaining at this peaceful start to September. Diving conditions remain great at Sail Rock, and with the excitement of several whale shark appearances last month, it has remained our favourite destination. We have enjoyed a diving and snorkelling trip or 2 up to Koh...

Enjoying the Summer with Chaloklum Diving

Summer holidays in Europe mean a busy Koh Phangan this year and we are happy to say that all the team at Chaloklum Diving are hard at work! It’s great  to have a healthy range of PADI courses on the go, as well as to be making regular dive trips with our own boat. Our 3 dive special is back on the schedule along with trips to Koh Tao dives sites – in addition to the mighty Sail Rock – the only sad news is that we’re still waiting for some visibility at Angthong Marine Park, again… Today our boat has gone up to the East coast of Koh Tao with snorkelling customers...

The Diving School slips back into gear on Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan has had a quiet, restful June and the team at the dive centre have been taking it fairly easy, and why not indeed? It’s fine to take a break, but also a little frustrating when Sail Rock has such great diving conditions and we haven’t made it out to Angthong Marine Park or Koh Tao for some diving and snorkelling for much too long… Hopefully the summer months will see rather more SCUBA action at the dive shop – amongst other things we are hoping to offer a wider variety of diving trips, and to promote more speciality dive courses featuring our experience...
