The 3 Dive Special

The Three Dive Special Trip is one of our favourite diving expeditions, including some of the finest pinnacle scuba dives in the Gulf of Thailand! On this unique dive trip we usually start at Southwest Pinnacles, then go up to Chumphon Pinnacles or across to Shark Island (depending on conditions) and finish with an afternoon dive at Sail Rock.
These are some of the top deeper dive sites in the Koh Phangan and Koh Tao area, also offering the best chance of diving with those wonderful whale sharks. Their appearance is rarely as often as we would like but whale sharks or not, this dive trip is surely unforgettable!

We leave Koh Phangan early and it’s first stop Southwest Pinnacles; a range of massive underwater rocks running from SSW to NNE. The largest pinnacle comes to within 7 metres of the surface, the rest lie deeper and run down to a max. depth of 30 m. Black and soft corals at depth, with magnificent anemone fields encrusting the pinnacles in more shallow water. Great scenery and views plus big schools of fusilier, snapper, trevally and batfish. Some of the biggest malabar grouper in our area lurk around the bases of the pinnacles.

Then we head East to Shark Island or up North of Koh Tao to Chumphon Pinnacles – these are the largest of the dive sites that we visit. Chumphon Pinnacles come to within ~14 m. of the surface, with small plateaus and walls down to 30+m. – the visibility can be truly excellent, and then the scenery is also spectacular. The site is best known for its big pelagics and the possibility to spot young bull sharks – but not always on the schedule if conditions are not suitable.

To finish the day we cruise back to Sail Rock. We arrive after the other diving boats have left and it’s a great dive, even if you’ve been there before on a day trip. The late afternoon lighting, lack of other divers and wealth of fish life make it an unforgettable end to the day. We are usually back at the dive shop before 6.
