Low-seasonal Observations from a sultry Koh Phangan

After a surprisingly busy start to the month, it’s now low season. Koh Phangan is once again a peaceful, laid-back and very hot/humid island. Mae Haad Beach is fairly deserted and you can even drive around Thongsala without wondering where the next crazy driver is coming from! The SCUBA diving is still good – Sail Rock has excellent visibility, mild current and the occasional Whale Shark. Although Chaloklum Bay is a little cloudy (but still dive-able) the reefs at Koh Ma and Mae Haad are fine for Discover SCUBA Diving, long shallow fun dives, and snorkelling of course. As ever...

It’s the February update from Chaloklum Diving!

Whale Shark sightings, Anthong Marine Park trips plus a whole lot of Divemaster trainees! It’s been all action at Chaloklum Diving of late, as Koh Phangan is quite busy and the weather (touch wood!) has been behaving reasonably well… Up to a few days ago we were having regular Whale Shark encounters at Sail Rock – we’ve got some nice photos and a few videos on file, as well as a bunch of divers with happy memories! Diving conditions are a little rough out there at the moment but are forecast to be calming soon. Good news is that we’ve been able to start taking...

Where does the time go on Koh Phangan?

Well, it feels like just a few weeks since we last posted a Chaloklum Diving blog but it’s actually nearly 2 months – we must be having too much fun! August has been a busy month as per normal, although the weather has been a little shaky at times, and it’s been great to get out to Anthong Marine Park on a regular basis again – with generally fine diving and snorkelling. We were surprised when conditions went down at Sail Rock a week or so ago, but are happy to say that they were back to 20+ metre vis and gentle current yesterday. Diving trips to Koh Tao have not been...

High season approaches on Koh Phangan

Hello again from Chaloklum Diving in July. We already have half a year behind us full of fun diving at Sail Rock with loads of Whale shark sightings. But we are also really looking forward to what will happen in the next six month of this year. High season is coming – we are all looking forward to being very busy and seeing all the happy experienced divers or our newly certified beginners who joined a PADI Open Water course. But more than that we also have some upcoming events we would love to tell you about: There is the PADI Women’s Dive Day on the 15th  of July. We are going to celebrate...

Whale Sharks in the Gulf in May?

Whale Sharks in the Gulf in May?

Chaloklum Diving wish you summer greetings from a typically peaceful, post-full moon party island. What’s not so typical is the fact that a bunch of Whale Sharks seem to have taken a liking to Koh Phangan’s top dive destination Sail Rock, and we’ve been seeing them most times that we make a diving, and snorkelling, trip out there. As it is also low season, it means that we have been neglecting our other favourite destinations – Anthong Marine Park and Koh Tao are still very much off the schedule although we have had some nice SCUBA dives at our local, Koh Phangan dive...
