Where does the time go on Koh Phangan?

Well, it feels like just a few weeks since we last posted a Chaloklum Diving blog but it’s actually nearly 2 months – we must be having too much fun! August has been a busy month as per normal, although the weather has been a little shaky at times, and it’s been great to get out to Anthong Marine Park on a regular basis again – with generally fine diving and snorkelling. We were surprised when conditions went down at Sail Rock a week or so ago, but are happy to say that they were back to 20+ metre vis and gentle current yesterday. Diving trips to Koh Tao have not been...

Whale Sharks in the Gulf in May?

Chaloklum Diving wish you summer greetings from a typically peaceful, post-full moon party island. What’s not so typical is the fact that a bunch of Whale Sharks seem to have taken a liking to Koh Phangan’s top dive destination Sail Rock, and we’ve been seeing them most times that we make a diving, and snorkelling, trip out there. As it is also low season, it means that we have been neglecting our other favourite destinations – Anthong Marine Park and Koh Tao are still very much off the schedule although we have had some nice SCUBA dives at our local, Koh Phangan dive...

An interesting start to the year on Koh Phangan

Long time no hear, you might say, and indeed it’s been nearly 3 months since we last gave an update on Chaloklum Diving goings on. Our excuse is that (sadly) there wasn’t anything special about January from the diving and snorkelling point of view, and then February (happily) was surprisingly busy – to the extent that we didn’t have time to do more than run an efficient diving school for a fair length of time – which is what we enjoy best, of course! February has featured great visibility at most of the dive sites we visit, allowing us to make a number of trips...

Quiet times on Koh Phangan

The Gulf of Thailand is calm, the weather is generally sunny (with the occasional serious shower), the SCUBA diving and snorkelling conditions are good and we even have whale sharks making appearances at Sail Rock. It’s such a shame that this time of the year is meant to be our rainy season!! Over the last few years we’ve been seeing this change in the weather – and now we’re trying to let divers know that there can be a chance of great diving on quieter dive sites at this time of year. Longer trips are off the agenda at present, so we’re not making any plans to...

Freediving with Chaloklum Diving

Posted by on Jul 5, 2016 in | Comments Off on Freediving with Chaloklum Diving

What is it all about ? Freediving is not the same as SCUBA diving in so many ways, because instead of relying on technology you are using only the abilities provided to us mammals by nature. The limits are those of your own body rather than your equipment, and the focus of the training is on understanding your body and learning how to release its full potential. And it’s way beyond snorkelling – rather than looking at the fish and corals from above we are joining them below, in our natural state. This sport is satisfying and fulfilling but in a totally different way. We offer a...
