Big Hydroids; Hydrozoa

Posted by on Nov 14, 2017 in | Comments Off on Big Hydroids; Hydrozoa

These underwater photos are probably of big hydroids, although some might be Black Corals. They were all taken at relatively deep dive sites, away from Koh Phangan. We are looking mainly at the wonderful Samran and Southwest Pinnacles. As with many other hydroids, the naming of these colonial animals is not easy, as they are not common. But never fear, the Chaloklum Diving School team are working on...

Whale Shark at Marine Park !

After a somewhat shaky start this month we now have some great diving conditions – with real blue water diving and even the appearance of a big whale shark at Hin Yipon in Anthong Marine Park – plus a Whale Shark video from our Divemaster to prove it! Of course we are still visiting the spectacular Sail Rock, but we also have a special dive trip in mind for Advanced Open Water divers and above – probably cruising up to Shark Island at Koh Tao for dive one, then down to the legendary Samran Pinnacles for number two… Of course all this ties in nicely with our current...

A hectic SCUBA Diving week on Koh Phangan…

We’ve just had a really fine week of diving in the Gulf of Thailand – 6 days of dive trips to 5 different destinations – with good visibility, calm seas and hot, sunny days. After this January’s weather and conditions we were having some problems remembering how it’s meant to be – SCUBA diving on the paradise island of Koh Phangan! Anyway Jan and his team of divers have already moved on to experience the delights of Khao Sok National Park – we wish them a great time, with thanks once again for diving with us. This means that we can confidently say...

It’s always good to see Heinz and Angie back on Koh Phangan!

Welcome back once again to our great diving friends – Instructor Heinz and Divemaster Angie – how many years have you been fun diving with us since you did your PADI Rescue Diver course with Michael? Anyway it’s time for the diving school to start planning some interesting, different day trips – must try and dive Koh Luuk Lek in Angthong Marine Park again, maybe visit some of the quiet dive sites on the East coast of Koh Tao, and of course the wonderful Samran Pinnacles… Incidentally Angie and Heinz have brought the nice weather with them as always –...

The Diving School relaxes after a busy 2 weeks on Koh Phangan

First of all, Cheerio from all the team at the dive centre to our good friends and number 1 Chaloklum Diving supporters Angie and Heinz. It’s great when we have our “regular” divers around, and can offer more variation in dive trips; this time we got out to Koh Wao Noi at Anthong National Marine Park for the first time in a few years, and had a great “day against debris” on Koh Phangan but sadly we didn’t manage to dive at Southwest or our beloved Samran Pinnacles as intended. Scuba diving and snorkelling conditions have been generally fine; especially at...
