Support Chaloklum Diving, help our coral reefs

It’s getting boring repeating the old phrase “we’re still here”, but we are – and happy to be so! Another cliche is that “we never expected it to go on for so long”, but no-one actually did. We continue to be a fully functional PADI dive centre, and are very happy when we get the chance to go fun diving or teach a course – it’s just not happening so often! Over the last months we have had the occasional fun diver or 2 and recently the conditions have been very nice at Sail Rock. Chaloklum Bay is calm, sheltered from the southwest winds...

New Years Greetings from Koh Phangan

Well… we are not going to say “who believed that it would last this long” as none of us ever did! Chaloklum Diving is still running thanks to all the help from our supporters over the last year, but the prospect of getting back to full time work seems as far away as ever. So we have reluctantly decided to relocate the dive centre to our home (also in Chaloklum Village) until business returns to normal in Thailand. We are happy whenever we actually get the rare chance to do some work, but there’s nowhere near enough to justify renting our lovely premises at the moment....

Welcome to the Monsoon Season on Koh Phangan

Greetings from Chaloklum Diving! We are still here and as determined as ever to keep the dive school flag flying on Koh Phangan. The north-east monsoon kicked in a few days ago, meaning that we’ll probably not be diving (even for our own pleasure, sad to say) for several days. However a positive side to this unprecedented year is that we won’t have the stress of maintaining a waiting list of frustrated divers waiting for conditions to clear up at Sail Rock. This can be usual in November/December!! We have had the occasional diving customers – most recently a tune-up and...

A June update from Koh Phangan

June has always been a peaceful month on Koh Phangan for the diving school and of course, this year it’s much more so. The weather has been surprisingly nice, along with some occasions of well needed rain. The diving at Sail Rock is good again after a short poor spell at full moon time – a whale shark is also making appearances every few days to make it even better! Diving conditions here on Koh Phangan are OK in Chaloklum Bay, but the prevailing south westerly wind is messing up the dive sites on the west coast at the moment. Needless to say, dive and snorkelling trips to the...

Chaloklum Diving get back to work!

So, we are very happy to confirm that the diving school is open again. We have the go ahead for SCUBA diving and PADI training, based here on Koh Phangan. As regards our big boat, we are still waiting to hear if it’s OK to go out for dive trips to Sail Rock and beyond. Of course we will let you know as soon as we know! We are not expecting a lot of action on Koh Phangan in the near future, so we’re planning to keep the team busy at least (!) with some promotions and activities over the next month. We’ve already posted on facebook that we’ll be offering free “try...
