Chaloklum Diving get back to work!
So, we are very happy to confirm that the diving school is open again. We have the go ahead for SCUBA diving and PADI training, based here on Koh Phangan. As regards our big boat, we are still waiting to hear if it’s OK to go out for dive trips to Sail Rock and beyond. Of course we will let you know as soon as we know! We are not expecting a lot of action on Koh Phangan in the near future, so we’re planning to keep the team busy at least (!) with some promotions and activities over the next month. We’ve already posted on facebook that we’ll be offering free “try...
Read MoreFarewell to the Chaloklum Diving blog!!
It’s been low season for a while at the dive centre – time once again to think about all those jobs that we forgot to do. And we’ve realised that it’s over 9 months since we posted our last Koh Phangan update! On checking with our social media experts, it seems like blogs are not really the done thing any longer – therefore it’s got to be time for us to write the last post (a mournful trumpet blows in the background, etc…). Here we go:- Our nice new Chaloklum Diving sub-office, based on the main road is now finished and working. A little earlier than...

It’s August already, and Koh Phangan is getting much more lively. It’s that time of the year when everyone wants to do their PADI course and go fun diving or snorkelling. This is fine for the team at the dive centre – we like to be busy and especially love the chance to offer a variety of dive trips. A South-westerly wind continues to blow when it shouldn’t, making the surface a bit wavy, but we’re still making big boat trips to Sail Rock and shore diving in Chaloklum Bay. It’s still a little rough on the West coast of Koh Phangan at Mae Haad Reef and Koh...

After a surprisingly busy start to the month, it’s now low season. Koh Phangan is once again a peaceful, laid-back and very hot/humid island. Mae Haad Beach is fairly deserted and you can even drive around Thongsala without wondering where the next crazy driver is coming from! The SCUBA diving is still good – Sail Rock has excellent visibility, mild current and the occasional Whale Shark. Although Chaloklum Bay is a little cloudy (but still dive-able) the reefs at Koh Ma and Mae Haad are fine for Discover SCUBA Diving, long shallow fun dives, and snorkelling of course. As ever...

As we approach the Songkran Festival on Koh Phangan, it’s a surprise to see that the island is far from busy. Having said that, it’s a not such a bad thing for the diving school as a few of our PADI professionals are taking short breaks in the near future. Diving-wise over the last month we’ve been making a lot more big boat trips than usual to Koh Phangan’s local dive sites, as the diving has been particularly good here a lot of the time. A Koh Tao trip remains a definite possibility but sadly we’ve not been getting any good reports from Anthong Marine Park for...
Read MoreIt’s the February update from Chaloklum Diving!
Whale Shark sightings, Anthong Marine Park trips plus a whole lot of Divemaster trainees! It’s been all action at Chaloklum Diving of late, as Koh Phangan is quite busy and the weather (touch wood!) has been behaving reasonably well… Up to a few days ago we were having regular Whale Shark encounters at Sail Rock – we’ve got some nice photos and a few videos on file, as well as a bunch of divers with happy memories! Diving conditions are a little rough out there at the moment but are forecast to be calming soon. Good news is that we’ve been able to start taking...
