It’s August already, and Koh Phangan is getting much more lively. It’s that time of the year when everyone wants to do their PADI course and go fun diving or snorkelling.
This is fine for the team at the dive centre – we like to be busy and especially love the chance to offer a variety of dive trips.
A South-westerly wind continues to blow when it shouldn’t, making the surface a bit wavy, but we’re still making big boat trips to Sail Rock and shore diving in Chaloklum Bay. It’s still a little rough on the West coast of Koh Phangan at Mae Haad Reef and Koh Ma…

Good news is that we saw our first whale shark at Sail Rock earlier this month and 2 more have been sighted in the last few days, although it’s not meant to be the season yet…
The Chaloklum Diving team are ready for action; Michi’s back from his visa run, Jan’s finished sailing around the Med, and Mr Greg has left the delights of the USA to join us for the summer! Looks like we will be offering more PADI programmes for the youngsters, as more SCUBA diving parents bring their kids to give it a try with Chaloklum Diving. And of course todays “Bubblemakers” will be the divers of tomorrow!
We are also planning a promotion or 2. Our PADI pro’s will be offering the chance to try breathing underwater for free, with sessions based at the dive centre in Chaloklum. We feel that many people are not sure if it works for them or not – this can be their chance.
And for certified divers on Koh Phangan we want to encourage a commitment to caring for the underwater environment. We plan to organise a team of dive professionals from Chaloklum Diving and other schools on Koh Phangan to do some cleaning up later this month – more to follow…
