Unlike the Brachyurans which have a reasonably standard body shape, the Anomura are a generally dissimilar bunch. They still have 10 legs, but 1 pair are small and often unseen. Of this “infra-order” it’s the Hermit Crabs that are most often noticed when we’re out scuba diving.

Similar in shape to a true lobster but flatter and much, much smaller.
Closer to a squat lobster than a true crab, they have only 3 sets of back legs and feed by filtering particles from the water like a barnacle. (3 Galleries)
