Pearly Monocle Bream; Scolopsis margaritifer

We identified this fish by tracking down the juvenile form, which we had seen quite often when diving around Koh Phangan. Big thanks to Barry Russell who put us right on 4 adults that we had misidentified as Scolopsis ghanam.

  1. I think one of the fish pictured (The mottled one with the electric blue stripe by the eye) is the Rainbow Monocled Bream (Scolopsis Monogramma)

    • Thanks Corey – the photo is now in “other monocle bream” – it was taken on a night dive many years ago with a lesser camera, which might explain the duller colouration.
