With our deep and long experience in the world of SCUBA diving we have selected 4 PADI speciality programmes that allow us to share our particular expertise and underwater passions – the Chaloklum Diving “Special Specialities”. On these courses we aim to give a deeper understanding of the subject and to refine your diving techniques beyond the requirements of the conventional training programme.
PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course
The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer programme is a response to the big increase in the number of people taking their digital cameras when they go diving or snorkelling. It’s been designed mainly with “point and shoot” cameras in mind; we make sure that you understand the basics and then help you to bring your underwater photographic technique to a whole new level!
It’s very much a practical course; you start with setting up and caring for the camera, considering shooting (and good diving) techniques, lighting and composition and then taking lots and lots of photos. You will progress to using some more advanced camera settings, plus learning how to refine the images on your computer after the diving.
Our marine life guide features over 5,000 underwater photos taken by our team over many years of diving in the Gulf of Thailand – without using expensive camera rigs – we are happy to share our wide experience with you!
The course is open to snorkellers and divers, takes one day and 2 dives, either on a day diving trip or at Koh Phangan local dive sites.
PADI Enriched Air Diver Course
Enriched air, known as “NITROX” (or EANx for short) is the safe, easy way to have longer no-decompression time on your scuba dives. There are many benefits to diving with Nitrox and the Padi Enriched Air Diver Course explains them all to you.
In addition to our experienced PADI Specialty Instructors, the Chaloklum Diving team includes the islands only DSAT Gas Blender Instructor, IANTD Normoxic Trimix (!!) Diver and BAUER compressor technician, with a dedicated tank filling and Nitrox blending facility here on Koh Phangan – we are the experts!
We will teach you how to safely plan Nitrox dives, all about the special considerations involved, how to analyse your air and complete the necessary administrative requirements…
Please note that Nitrox training can now also be incorporated in your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course…
It is also possible to do a “non-diving” Nitrox course; ie theory, gas analysis and tank fill logging only – but we still prefer to take you out on a day dive trip to plan, make and enjoy 2 enriched air dives as well!
PADI Equipment Specialist Course
When you get to buy your own scuba diving equipment you definitely don’t want to miss out on a dive due to some minor issue – maybe you’ve missed an o-ring, you’ve torn your wetsuit or a fin or mask strap has broken; the PADI Equipment Specialist course teaches you how to manage most of the usual repairs and adjustments.
We will take the time to explain fully how your dive gear actually works and how it should be maintained and serviced (by a professional), making you more comfortable with it and better able to take care of your investment.
One of the great strengths of our diving school is the quality of our dive gear – the co-founder of Chaloklum Diving has been personally servicing and repairing our scuba equipment (and that of many PADI professionals on Koh Phangan) for the past 20 years – here’s the chance for you to learn with a truly experienced technician.
You must be at least 10 years old and certified as a PADI (Junior) Scuba Diver or higher to enrol in the Equipment Specialist course.
PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course
The Peak Performance Buoyancy programme is an excellent opportunity to become a better diver in so many different ways. Improved air consumption, better underwater control and comfort, a more environmentally friendly diving technique, as well as getting to take some great underwater photographs (if that’s your interest).
You learn the fundamentals of good buoyancy control, including correct weighting and trim, equipment streamlining, correct breathing patterns and the concept of “visualisation” as applied to your diving.
The course is available for any level of certified scuba diver, and takes a full day with 2 training dives at one of our local dive sites.
